DRS Rules & Scoring

Our Overriding Principles

  1. Race within the spirit of the rules. Work with us and avoid exploiting any loopholes. We want to find the fastest bike riders, not the smartest cheats or fastest salad spinners.
  2. Be honest with your stats and equipment. Integrity is crucial in eRacing. Don’t manipulate your in-game biometrics, don’t manipulate your equipment or share your account.
  3. Communicate with respect, empathy, and understanding. Ensure your messages are considerate and non-offensive. If in doubt, refrain from typing. It’s simple.
  4. If you suspect someone is breaking the rules, only the Team Captain is authorized to contact us through our Discord server. We do not handle communications anywhere else. We handle all flags carefully and base conclusions on available/requested data. Avoid in-game messaging or post-race discussions. Let your Team Captain reach out, and we’ll thoroughly investigate the flag. No need for pitchforks.

Please note that our overriding principles will always take priority over the general rules. These principles apply to all events hosted and powered by Team DIRT Racing (TDR), they apply both in-game and on any social media platforms where TDR hosted or powered events are being discussed. Any breach of these overriding principles may result in race/event disqualification (DQ), season disqualification (SDQ), or permanent expulsion from all TDR hosted or powered events, depending on the severity of the violation.

Rider Requirements
2.1 Rider Info and Biometrics

  1. Riders must have a fully registered ZwiftPower.com account that has enabled the sharing of rider data with ZwiftPower from your Zwift Profile Connections.
  2. Riders must have a fully registered DirtRacingSeries.com account that has your full name, correct Zwift ID and your DRS Role listed.
  3. Riders must have accurate height and weight entered in-to their Zwift profile, either through Companion app or Zwift.com. Weight reductions of >2kg close to the event will require the rider to verify this with a weigh-in video.
  4. Riders are not permitted to change their height, weight or any other biometric information from the point they enter the pen to when they exit the race.
    1. Failure to comply will result in a Single Race DQ for the rider.
  5. Riders should ensure that races in this series are saved as PUBLIC to ensure transparency.
    1. In the event that a rider is reported to Race Control, then Race Control will request the original ZWIFT FIT file from the Team Captain via notification on Direct Message on Discord or email. This will need to be provided within 24-hours and failure to provide that FIT file will itself be a Single Race DQ for the rider in question.

2.2 Rider Equipment

  1. All riders must transmit power information to Zwift.
    1. This can be done by using a Smart turbo trainer, Smart bike or Classic ‘dumb’ trainer with a separate power meter.
    2. Don’t use anything to generate power other than a bike or hand-bike (Ski-Erg and all power multipliers are prohibited).
    3. Not transmitting power information to the game will result in a Single Race DQ for the rider.
  2. All riders are expected to wear a heart rate monitor (HRM) that transmits data directly to Zwift.
    1. We do not auto-DQ for not wearing a HRM. However, if a review is requested for not wearing a HRM and you have a (recent) history of races with less than 75% of them wearing a HRM, this will result in a Single Race DQ for the rider.

Team Rosters

3.1 Team Rosters:

  1. A team can comprise up to 8 nominated riders (all 8 can race!) of which a maximum of 4 will score points towards the Team Classification in each event. All riders who race in each event will score points towards their Individual Classifications.
    1. Once a registered rider enters a Stage, they are locked-in to the team.
  2. Teams must be made up of riders at or below the team category threshold the team is registered to.
  3. To avoid any unnecessary DQ’s we’ll check your rider’s data before each stage. If you want your rider’s data checked by our system, please make sure to add them at least 24-hours before Stage start.
  4. You can add riders to your Team Rosters up to any time until Stage start, the Team Rosters won’t lock.

3.2 Upgrading, downgrading, moving and deleting riders:

DRS is a team event. Riders who join are expected to ride with their team for the duration of the season unless a change is unavoidable. To help team captains maintain stable teams, we provide a reasonable threshold that a rider may grow within a season, even into the next higher category, without having to leave the team.

How this plays out in practice:

  1. Once a rider has raced during a season they are locked into that category or higher for the season.  For clarity if a rider was on the roster but did NOT race – then they can be moved around as required.  After a rider has raced then they can only switch teams if:
    1. The rider upgraded, elects to upgrade or has been asked by Race Control to upgrade to a higher category.
      • Their team spot will become available for a new rider.
  1. If a rider wants to withdraw from the Series:
    1. You can delete the rider from your team.
      • Their team spot will become available for a new rider.
  1. If a rider was deleted but had NOT upgraded OR downgraded a category then the rider can’t return to their old time zone/category combination during that season.

Rider & Team Categories

Rider Categories are based on your 30-day maximum Race Ranking which can be found on your Rider profile page at www.zwiftracing.app.

  1. We expect the best racers to increase their Race Ranking as a result of winning races. That is why we will allow racers to increase their ranking by a total of 35 above the category limit during the season and remain with their current team – provided that they have already competed where their vELO score was below the DRS category limit at the time of the pre-race freeze..
    1. For example: Platinum Rider has a race ranking of 1230 prior to the rider’s first DRS race. If this rider does well in races and gain a ranking of anywhere up to 1334.99 during the DRS season, then they are permitted to continue to race in Platinum, provided they didn’t breach point 2 below.
  2. If a rider increases their Race Ranking by over 50 during a DRS race AND that takes their ranking 35 over the category threshold, the rider will face a Single Race DQ and be asked to race in their new category. This level of performance increase is likely only possible without a recent 5-min max effort in a race prior to DRS.

Race Specific Rules

  1. Starting Pens are as listed on the Rider Dashboard!
  2. General rules that apply to all racing formats:
    1. Use of techniques or equipment that would not be permitted, or not be effective, in real life cycling events, is prohibited. Although we recognise this can often be unintentional, the first offence will still be a Single Race DQ for the rider because the technique likely gave an unfair advantage.
    2. Use of an in-game bike, or any other virtual equipment, that is designed for para-cycling athletes by non-para-cycling athletes is prohibited and will result in a Single Race Rider DQ.
  3. Race specific rules:
    1. Mass start with your own category.
    2. Draft is turned ON.
    3. Free bike and wheel choice.
      • Unless mentioned otherwise in the Stage description.
  1. Individual Time Trial (iTT) specific rules:
    1. Mass start with your own category.
    2. Draft is turned OFF.
    3. Free bike and wheel choice.
      • Unless mentioned otherwise in the Stage description.
  1. Team Time Race Stages (Mass Start with Draft) specific rules:
    1. Mass start with your own category.
    2. Draft is turned ON.
    3. Free bike and wheel choice (be aware: TT bikes have NO draft).
      • Unless mentioned otherwise in the Stage description.
